Overview

The Daily Philosopher is an online collection of searchable essays, each featuring an excerpt of philosophical text by a well-known philosopher, followed by a response. The challenge of this project was to develop an easy-to-use publishing system that allowed for: (1) the creation of footnotes with superimposed text; (2) the ability to assign each essay to multiple categories; (3) "preview" text to aid in search results; and (4) automatic display the newest essay on the home page. The Movable Type publishing platform was an obvious choice, which Stop Time Studio customized to include easy-to-insert superimposed text and footnotes and more accurate searching capabilities. This lets the Daily Philosopher focus on writing, while the HTML is automatically generated behind it.

For those who wish to print essays, a special print "style sheet" allows for only the essay itself to be printed, leaving out the menu items and other elements that do not need to be printed.
