Web Design & Development

Design refers to the how the website looks. I like websites that are clean, elegant, and intuitive. The web is an ever-changing medium, and I like to apply the KISS principle to it whenever possible (keep it short & simple). That is not to say I'm a simpleton—rather, I find the less cluttered sites to be the most attractive and able to deliver the most positive experience.

But if you have another designer that you like to use, I am happy to work that way as well. Several of my clients have brought in outside designers for me to work with, and the results have always been extremely positive.

Development refers to what goes on "behind-the-scenes"—the code that makes the site tick. Whether your site's content comes out of a database, or is being pumped in by a news feed or some other source, the fact is that people don't care! Much like most of us don't know the inner workings of our cars, most of us don't know what makes a website work. But we sure know when it's NOT working. So that's my other job; the development side of your site. I'll put together a site that not only looks good, but also functions the way it should. Good code also means a happy, snappy site that will be easy to update, or even do a complete redesign of down the road.

For the technically minded, most of my work is done with LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP). But I am also comfortable working on Microsoft servers with ASP.NET and IIS. All my sites use CSS for easy maintenance, efficiency, and compliance with web standards.
